Trekking in Tanzania
Tanzania isn’t only about safaris—it’s also home to legendary treks and breathtaking hikes. From the roof of Africa to hidden waterfalls in lush villages, there’s a trek for every traveler.
Climb Africa’s highest peak (5,895m) and one of the world’s great adventures. Kilimanjaro offers different routes for different trekkers:
Marangu Route (5–6 days) – Known as the “Coca-Cola Route.” The simplest and most comfortable path, with hut accommodations.
Machame Route (6–7 days) – The “Whiskey Route.” Scenic and popular, a bit more challenging than Marangu.
Lemosho Route (7–8 days) – Remote and beautiful, with higher success rates. Good for acclimatization.
Rongai Route (6–7 days) – Less crowded, approaching from the north, easier but less scenic.
Umbwe Route (6 days) – Steep, direct, and demanding. Best for experienced trekkers.
Africa’s fifth-highest mountain (4,566m) offers an adventurous climb through forests and wildlife, with stunning views of Kilimanjaro from the summit. A great acclimatization trek before Kilimanjaro.
Not every trek has to reach the sky. Some of Tanzania’s gems are hidden in the foothills:
Materuni Waterfalls (1 day) – A lush forest walk near Moshi with coffee farm visits and a refreshing plunge under the falls.
Marangu Waterfalls (1 day) – Combine a short trek with Chagga cultural tours and banana beer tasting.
Kikuletwa Hot Springs (1 day) – A relaxing oasis with clear warm waters, perfect after a climb.
