This is a challenging tour, especially the Ol Doinyo Lengai summit: involves steep terrain, some scrambling, cold night hikes. Good fitness is necessary. Previous hiking experience helps.
July – October for flamingo sightings and cooler daytime temperatures.
Dry season (June–October) offers clearer skies and better hiking conditions.
Rainy seasons can make terrain muddy and slippery; summit earlies more difficult.
